Frequently asked questions
Plain answers about Home, action items, medicine, Noy Tomas, privacy, and more.
Getting started
What is Aruga?
A shared household app for remembering and running everyday life — tasks, calendar, shopping, meals, medicine, notes, and chat — with an AI companion (Noy Tomas) that can help manage that data.
How do I create or join a household?
Create a household when you sign up, or join one with a household invite key. Join requests can wait for an admin to accept. You can belong to more than one household and switch the active one in the app.
Can someone be in the household without an account?
Yes. Members such as children or helpers can exist without logging in. Someone with an account can assign tasks and medicines to them.
Who can see what?
Access is per feature (action items, calendar, shopping, medicine, vault, budgeting, and so on). The household owner always has admin. What you see follows your member accesses and household membership.
Home & Needs attention
What shows on Home?
What needs attention now (overdue or due today), medication still to give, shopping count, and a short greeting from Noy Tomas — plus upcoming items.
I ticked something by mistake. Can I untick it?
Yes. Open Needs attention → View all, scroll to Done today, and tap the check again. That removes the completion log. For a recurring action item, the due date rolls back when that log was what advanced it. You can also remove a log from the action item’s completion history.
Why didn’t the Medication tile count go up when I added a medicine?
New medicines often start at the next dose later today. Aruga still treats the course as active on that day, so remaining doses should appear under “to give.” Paused medicines are left out of the count.
Action items & events
What’s the difference between an action item and an event?
An action item is something to do (pay a bill, buy a cake). An event is something that happens (birthday party, appointment). Tip: event “Mia’s birthday (Apr 12)” → action item “Buy cake (due Apr 10).”
How do recurring action items work?
Logging one as done records a completion and moves the item to the next due date so the reminder doesn’t disappear. Unticking (or removing that log) can restore the previous due when appropriate.
Can an action item span several days?
Yes. Set a start date before the due date. It shows on the calendar each day of the run (with “Day X of Y” for multi-day events and runs).
Can I pause something?
Yes. Action items and medicines can be paused (optionally until a resume time). While paused they stay off Needs attention and the calendar until resumed.
Calendar
Is the calendar the source of truth?
No. It’s a unified view of events, action items, meals, medicine, and birthdays. Edit the underlying item to change the schedule.
Why does a multi-day event show on every day?
So you can see the whole run. Each day is labeled (e.g. Day 1 of 3).
Medicine
How are doses scheduled?
Per medicine: times a day, every N hours, or other recurrence rules, from a start time. Late or early doses can shift later ones. You can complete a course early or pause it.
Where do I log a dose?
From Needs attention, the Medication screen, or related home tiles — mark given (or skip) for the scheduled slot.
Shopping, meals & recipes
Is the meal plan the same as a recipe?
No. A meal plan is what the household plans to eat on a day. A recipe lives in the Cookbook. Linking a meal to a recipe is optional.
Can recipes feed the shopping list?
Yes — ingredients from recipes can be sent to shopping so the list stays shared.
Chat & Noy Tomas
What’s the difference between Household Chat and companion chat?
Household Chat is for everyone in the house (you can tag members or Noy Tomas). Companion chat is private between you and Noy Tomas. Only household chat unread badges the main Chat icon; the hub shows which thread has new messages.
How do I talk to Noy Tomas?
From Home, the global + sheet (“Ask Noy Tomas”), or by mentioning @tomas (also @noy, @noytomas, @alfred) in Household Chat. He can search and update household data you have access to.
Does Noy Tomas see everything forever?
He works from a short briefing of what’s relevant and calls tools when he needs more — under the same household permissions as you.
Trackers & money
What are trackers?
Logs over time: measurements, counts, choices, duration, or currency amounts. Some can show on Home or link to an illness, issue, event, or budget.
What is Money / budgeting?
Household currency and period forecasts vs actuals (income and spending), so the household can plan and track together.
Privacy & accounts
Is my household data shared with other households?
No. Data is scoped to your household. Members only see what their access allows.
Can I leave or delete a household?
Owners can transfer ownership or delete a household (with name confirmation). Members can leave; the last owner must hand off ownership first if others still have accounts.
How do I delete my account?
Use the account deletion flow in the app (backed by the account edge function). Households you owned are handed to another member when possible.
Platforms & offline
Where does Aruga run?
Flutter app for iOS, Android, and web.
Does it work offline?
Writes can queue while you’re offline and sync when you’re back; you’ll see an offline indicator when the connection is down.
Still stuck?
If something doesn’t match what you expect, check Home → Needs attention (and View all / Done today), the item’s own detail screen, and whether the item is paused or completed. For AI help inside the household, ask Noy Tomas from chat or +. Or write [email protected] / [email protected].
